abstract: In this article, we provide an overview of a generic e-voting system, with a particular emphasis on the various modes and environments in which voting takes place. Additionally, we conduct a legal analysis comparing electronic voting to the Italian constitution addressing the need to harmonize technological innovation with constitutional principles such as personal, equal, free, and secret voting. Only safe, reliable, efficient, technically sound electronic voting systems that are open to independent verification and easily accessible to voters can enhance public trust, which is an essential prerequisite for conducting electronic elections.
