abstract: The franco-german relationship is a classic topic of reflection in political science, which can mostly be examined with the analytical category of embedded bilateralism. This approach can contribute to a better understanding the leadership of France and Germany in the European Union, in particular when dealing with crisis such as the financial crisis, the migration one and the pandemic one. The paper focuses on the present condition of this relationship, considering the major recent international political events and their repercussions for the franco-german couple and the European Union in general.
