abstract: The analysis focuses on the evolution and transformations of the contemporary constitutional State, examined from the Italian and Spanish constitutional perspectives, regarded as paradigmatic experiences of democratic, social, and rule of law constitutionalism. In both cases, particular attention is devoted to the essential dynamics of implementation and crisis of the State (social, democratic, and governed by the rule of law), with regard to the effectiveness of fundamental rights and the resilience of institutional powers in the face of successive economic crises over time.
